Post his/her name and we'll tell you for sure. Many of the coin dealers in the magazines are to be avoided. You can also PM me and I'll let you know my opinions.

Right here! Most people here can vouch for many dealers. Let us know who it is, and you never know, someone may have had past dealings with them.

The company's name is collectorsinternet and their web site is www.collectorsinternet.com. Many of their prices seem too good to be true, which means they most likely are. They have a link to ANA, but aren't listed as dealers. They only accept personal and cashiers checks. Looking for a little reassurance before sending off $1K.

If you send them money, kiss it goodbye. Their address is a dropbox. I lived in LA many, many years. Only expensive highrise and small ritzy stores in that part of Sunset Blvd, and a few homeless bums wandering.

I would avoid them if that is the only way you can pay and if you cannot find a reputable recommendation for them. They likely are not selling anything unique, therefore, you will find it somewhere else and will likely be more secure in the transaction.

Try to bluff them................tell them you are planning to be in their area in the next few days and would possibly like to just stop and examine/purchase said coin while you are there. See what kind of reaction you get.

Under no circumstances send check/MO. That's just a con waiting to happen. If they can't bother to take CC, then 99% of the time they're cheats.

Thanks for the sound advice. Guess I'll just have to keep lookin' for an AU 93cc Morgan (an AU53 for under $600 did seem a bit underpriced - like 50%!)

The site looked credible - but too many red flags: the number of coins in inventory and their weekly auction; "no need to confirm orders as we have multiples of most coins"; will send coins to grading services - $25 for NGC and $30 for PCGS; only affiliated with the Beverly Hills Coin Club - which they sponsor; no credit cards; not an ANA dealer; etc.

I'll tell Willis that I'll stop by next time I'm in LA for the Long Beach Show.

I lived in LA 'til I was 18 (many years ago). I'm familiar with Sunset Blvd, but not the numbers.

Thanks again Truth, your opinion is much appreciated.

only affiliated with the Beverly Hills Coin Club

Speaking of whom, I had two very bad transactions with the Beverly Hills Coin Club. Complete robbery for overgraded coins. Fortunately, I got my money back for one of them. They simply misrepresented every coin in their inventory as far as I could tell.

I told collectorsinternet that I wanted to come by and see the coins on my way to Long Beach. They keep all their coins in the vault and there's no provision for viewing them, prior to purchase. No photos either. Just faith.

It's a dog-eat-dog world out there. I've been lucky I guess - returned a lot of coins, but never been burned.

Thanks again for the good advice.

Oh what a surprise!!!! acclaim.gif

Tell them you keep all your money in a vault and have no provisions to send them your money or have any pictures to send them, but if they are faithful, you will send it to them after you get their coin. wink.gif
