1910D Barber Dime, Pittman Variety?

9 posts in this topic

I was researching some of my older coins on the NGC pop report and I when I checked my Barbers I found a 1910D "Pittman Variety" in the pop report. I only saw one coin listed with that designation, can anyone tell me what the designation is? I'm thinking it was part of Pittman's collection? First 1910D minted? Any details would be greatly appreciated.

When NGC notes a major pedigree on a slab they list the pop separately. PCGS should do likewise.

Noooooooo. NGC should group all the coins together. Then maybe have a option to break them down with a list of pedigreed coins.

Greg- I just like having the ability to track pedigreed coins. How NGC accomplishes this is not all that important to me. I wish PCGS would offer this information. laugh.gif

Just wanted to acknowledge the responses. I kind of figured it was a pedigree but hoped there was more to the story smile.gif

I'm revisiting my box of early date coins (1800->early 1900's) and have been comparing them to the pop reports and have been hoping to get a bit of history on each coin.

Thanks Again!

NGC's current policy is to furnish pedigrees whenever these are varifiable. This requires that the submitter send the coin for certification sealed in its auction flip, or, that the coin be plated in the catalog so that we can identify it as the same piece. We can do this for most auctions during the past twenty years, but it gets harder for coins that have not appeared at auction within that time frame.

While all pedigrees we apply will appear on the coin's label, only the most important ones will be listed as separate lines in our Census Report. These include the big four: Garrett, Norweb, Pittman and Eliasberg. With just a few exceptions, all others will be included with the general certified population for that particular date, mint and variety.

Implementation of this policy is still ongoing, but it should be completed by the end of this quarter. In the meantime, you may still see some other pedigrees in our online and hardcopy reports.

I've had two coins retro-pedigreed. I guess Childs and Carter weren't famous enough to be listed separately. (This is fine w/ me, since I much prefer pop data that is easy to read.)
