Morgan Dollars

Hi,

I am new to the numismatic collecting forum. I am planning on selling a coin on ebay, but am unsure where to find the mint mark for this specific coin? How do I know if it is an 1889-S, 1889-O, or some other variety. While browsing through ebay, I found that the Carson City Dollars have a clear "CC" minted on them. I can't find that on this one so I've crossed that off my list of possibilities. Also, what is the going price of a coin like this? With that said here is the coin:

Hello---Coin is toned but looks like an 0 just above the DO of Dollar on the reverse. If my eyes are correct, that means New Orleans mint----so you would have an 1889-0 Looks like a decent grade as well. I would just put it on Ebay and say something like "very high grade" 1889-0 Morgan Dollar. Then let them bid. Good luck. Bob [supertooth]

At first I tought I saw a "O" But, I don't think anything is there. If you have the coin in hand you can see the mint mark. If there is nothing there, it was minted in Philadelphia.

 

I'd put it up here on the B/S/T board first.

You got one of those UGLY toned Morgans there and WHATEVER you do DO NOT ATTEMPT to wash it. Above the D-O in dollar there is what appears to be an "o" but tough to tell within the toning ( Darkness ) IF it is a New Orleans Mint the MInt Mark will definitely be raised and can see it under a magnifying glass. The pictures however is tough to tell. If there is NOTHING there it is a Philadelphia Morgan which has NO mint mark. At Any rate THAT is where the Mint Mark WILL be located on a Morgan Dollar.
