Fellas, I know that it's a coin stuck in a first day cover yeahok.gif, but I'm wondering how these were marketed, hyped, whatever. Who distributed them? What was the issue price? Should I rip out the buffalo nickel, sell it and throw away the fancy packaging???? You know, I want the skinny on all the scandalous apsects of this item!!! popcorn.gif I need some dirty laundry so I can hype it up myself!!!!!!! smile.gif

How were we to know you weren't having a "dense" day? poke2.gif

Beats me as to your more specific questions although it's probably not worth much more than a normal Unc. if it just has a buffalo nickel and a worthless stamp.I'd just call it a first day cover and tack on ten bucks or so...

Well, I'll admit that my original post had lousy wording - sorry! Guess I am often pretty dense 27_laughing.gif

Buffalo dollar thing-ee..... For that matter, what the heck is it? Who made it?

Well the big round thing-ee is a Buffalo commemorative dollar minted by the US mint, the little round thing-ee is a Buffalo/Indian Head 5 cent coin-minted by the US mint as well, the red square thing-ee is an 80 cent stamp printed by the B.E.P. and the round thing-ee overlapping this stamp is called a postmark. It is used to reduce the value of this stamp from 80 cent of shipping costs to nothing,natta,etc....

Hope that helps.

I see these covers for most newly issued U.S. coins, but I do not know who makes them. I've also seen similar plastic cases that are empty, just awaiting your eager insertion. poke2.gif

Could it be Littleton who makes these? I've seen them in a number of coin shops. They are apparently quite popular.

BTW, Buffalo, Wyoming, is a real town in the northern part of the state on I-25. So, whom-so-ever made these went to a little trouble in getting them postmarked at Buffalo Station. I like the set.

There used to be a company called "Fleetwood" that specialized in first-day covers. I believe they are now "Unicover Corporatin" or something like that. I was wondering if they made them, but typically, their company name would be written all over the packaging.
