i would never ever have thought that a fingerprinted coin would ever excite me let alone really impress me and excite me as a MONSTER GREAT EXTRAORDINARY COIN

WELL THIS COIN DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

just goes to show you that you never ever know what is just around the corner

ngc proof 67 the coin is much better in person when sight seen as the mirrors and colors in this scan nowhere near shows this coins beauty but THI IS ALL WE GOTS ON HERE

first off the fingerprint is amplified by the scan and in person this coin looks like some type of spider textile mark with the toning developing around it the mirrors are super MONSTER DEEP! liquid mirrors

also the coin is clearly cameoed and the colors are sooooooo vibrant on this coin it just jumps off the coin

as you can see the coin especially so on the reverse is and has a blue toned surface which you sometimes see on proof lib nicks from mint wrappers and this is usually seen on the last dates of the proof shield nickel coins

then adding the rainbow toning on top of the blue evenly toned surfaces combined with the monster deep mirrors and the cameo effect which happens to be very strong on the obverse

and then the vibrant colors of the coin makes for an extremely visually appealling coin

again in person sight seen the fingerprint obverse really is not noticeable and would be missed by many

as in person it looks like spider veins or some sort of textile came in contact with the coin a long time and then the toning and colors created when the coin was in some sort of storage album and/or paper really created a masterpiece

i have not seen a more prettier proof colored lib nick this is one of the best i have seen!!!!!!!! not a rare date nor a common one and this coin is solid for the grade as per the proof 67 assigned by ngc

this coin is mesermising in person and really grows on you

I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A FINGERPRINTED COIN LIKE THIS WOULD HAVE IMPRESSED ME there are exceptions to the rules

i absolutely love this coin

sincerely michael

Hi Michael,

That is a wonderfully toned coin! I am one who absolutely hates fingerprints on a coin so I would prefer that it were not there, but I have to admit that the way the tone combines with the fingerprint it does not look too bad. Nice coin! smile.gif

Michael,

You should go across the street and tell DorkKarl that you want to dip the coin to remove the fingerprint!

wink.gif

Seriously, that's a delicious looking coin!

There is something about toned Liberty nickels. Toned mint state Lib's like that are TOUGH. You can find the proof's with a bit of searching, though.

I can't stand fingerprints. They give me the heebie-jeebies.

Save some money, and grab the one I have on Ebay wink.gifsmile.gif

That IS a pretty nice liberty nik in spite of that print.

That may be one of the most vibrant ones I've seen.

Nice Coin Michael!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leo,

To each his own, but I think you are the first person I have ever heard say that they like a fingerprint on a coin! You are right however, they do add SOMETHING to a coin! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

it certainly has a very distinct toning pattern, not sure if I like it or not though, I would really like to see it in person.

michael,

thanks guys for all the great responses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i also learned lots

this coin in person sight seen the fingerprint really is not noticeable at all the scan seems to bring it out more

but IN PERSON SIGHT SEEN THE MIRRORS are crisp clean clear and with no haze or cloudiness the mirrors are like liquid MERCURY with the colors FLOATING on top of the mirrors like liquid paint where if you tilted the coin the colors would just roll off the coin!!!!!!!!!!

in person the coin would knock you out and you would be amazed at the way the coin looks totally many times better than the scan

IF YOU kinda like the scan and are intregued by it you would absolutely fall all over this coin if you saw it in person

but again this is all we gots on here

Hi John

Did I admit that? I guess there are innocent fingerprints when we were kids, using our thumbs or elbows to push our coins into the whitman folder holes but then again we have the really stupid kind of fingerprints where it could have been prevented with a little care in the slab business.

Hi Leo,

I was just joking with you. grin.gif

Personally, I think that I dislike fingerprints on a coin more than almost any other thing that would distract from the eye appeal of a coin.

When I see a fingerprint on a coin the first thing I think is what a shame it is that the eye appeal has been compromised due to something that could have been prevented with a little care.

The second thing that goes through my mind is a scene that I am sure we have all seen before, you are at a coin show and right there before your eyes is a coin dealer sitting behind his table eating a big greasy cheeseburger while he is sorting through coins!

Now I know all you coin dealers out there get hungry, but please don’t eat while you work. It could be hazardous to your coins. mad.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I know most folks don't like fingerprints on coins, and, I agree largely that fingerprints can really be distracting. Here is a Washington quarter with tremendous color, it does not show up well since the image is a scan, and the coin has a large and obvious fingerprint on the obverse. I believe it limited the grade of the coin.

Tom,

That coin is a perfect example of what I mean. When I see a coin like that one I can't help but think to myself what a wonderful coin it is, but how much better it would be if only that fingerprint were not there to distract the eye from the full beauty of the coin.

I agree with you. In this particular instance the fingerprint actually helped me and, as such, is good as far as I am concerned. I say this because the coin is graded PCGS MS65 where it would no doubt have been graded PCGS MS67 without the fingerprint. We all know it is near impossible to grade toned, mint state examples from scans so you will have to take my word on the grading issue. If it makes you feel any better about taking my word on it, I have been known to know a bit about toning in general and Washington quarters in particular. Anyway, the coin cost me 10-20% of what it would have had it been in an MS67 holder. I like the coin, however, I don't like the coin enough to have paid the money it would have cost me in the higher graded holder. Therefore, in a roundabout way, the fingerprint helped me.

Michael,

You have a great eye for beautiful coins. However, that fingerprint kills the coin for me. Keep in mind that I won't buy a coin with

a fingerprint on it. That being said, the color combo on that coin is exquisite, and I love its reverse. I think it's as hard to find an

attractively toned super-grade Liberty Nickel as it is difficult to find attractive old copper in 65 RB.

hi there elcon

i completely understand but this coin if you saw it in person you might change your mind as with everything it is sight seen that counts

but as with anything else it is all a preference

but this coin is so original and so flashy and the mirrors so deep and liquid just like the colors would roll off the coin if tilted you i think would luv it

but this scan is good

but sight seen is still the best

i guess for me this internet is good but no technology i think will ever beat a coin show where you can see coins one on one and meet and talk to other coin people face to face

sincerely michael
