Does anyone know about clipped coins?

Ive been hearing that there are alot of fake clipped coins at least as far as modern coins are concerned. How do you determine if a clipped coin is fake?

Make sure your coin has the Blakesly effect before you buy it or it could be fake or just stick to certified coins.

As far as the Blakesly effect is concerned I would say there is a good possibility it is real. The rim and strike are kinda weak directly opposite the clip... BUT... If it is supposed to have a half way broken look in the clip I would say NO.

If you own the coin send it in if the Blakesly effect is there. You may have a neat error there.

Im just screwin around... I just find it more fun to buy coins raw. Speaking of.. are you going to sell any of those Kansas die cracks?

 

Have you seen the the cracks that are coming on the obverse of the Kansas, West Virginia and California quarters? They are all in the exact same spot.

Yes for some reason that is a very weak area of the die for state quarters. There seems to be more errors there in that place than any other coin that I have seen in the state quarters.

Found one of them today with about four die cracks along with the spitting buffalo die crack all on the same coin.
