What’s up with this Ebay listing changing coins??

6 posts in this topic

I contacted this seller yesterday to ask about his return policy and make him an offer on the half cent. He had a return policy, but he wanted the buyer to forfeit some of the refund to cover the cost of the auction, Paypal, bla bla. So I replied with an offer including what I thought was would be fair in case I should want to return the coin. The seller replied with “That Work's!!! The Photo's Do Not Show The Real Beauty Of This Coin!!!”

I wait few hours for him to adjust the BIN price so I can buy the coin, and then sent him an e-mail that I don’t see the listing changed. He replies to me that he misread my offer and thought I wanted the half cent for the $550 price and then declines my offer.

Oh well I thought, and left the computer to go eat dinner. Going back to a watch list I have at Ebay later in the evening I see that there is a buffalo nickel in my list that I never put there. I was confused it first and didn’t know how the auction got in my list. But because for some reason when I went to eat I minimized the half cent listing instead of closing the browser, so that page was still on the computer. I was then able to compare the new listing to the old and could see that the auction numbers are the same but the seller actually changed coins in the listing.

Any one ever seen this move by a seller before on an auction? screwy.gif

Until there is that first bid you may alter/change your auction to suit you in any and all catagories.

I accidently listed the same coin twice once and instead of loosing the $4. listing fees simply went in (because no one had bid yet-) and chance all of the listing from the title on down.

Once there is even a single bid in play though then no dice. You can add to the listing (photos and more of a description) but that's about it.

To do what he did after a bid would have required he hosed the complete auction by cancelling the bid/auction.

This looks like a situation where he realized the half-cent wouldn't sell, so he changed the description (a lot!) to a coin that would sell in order to avoid wasting some eBay fees. While it's not a smart policy in my opinion, nothing in eBay's rules prohibits this.
