Air-Tite holders

8 posts in this topic

Does anyone have any experiance how the direct fit Air-Tite holders compare to the ones which use rings? Do both offer the same protection of the coins? I am familiar with the ones which use rings and have used them for several years but am looking at the direct fit as an alternative.

Thank you for any help.

Eric

Thank you Tom however I ordered kointains once. When I received them they were all jammed together and were next to impossable to get apart in a usable manner. Out of 100 I managed to be able to use only about 12. It is the main reason I switched to Air-Tites years ago.

Thanks

Eric

That's too bad about your experience with Kointains, Eric, as I have always had good luck with them. Of course, I understand what you mean about them getting stuck together, as this can be a real pain.

I can tell you that the direct fit Air-Tites are a pain in the butt to get apart. I would get the ones with the ring just for this reason...

Now, they're being made with a small portion of the edge flattened like a "clipped-edge". In any event, the reason they are so hard to get apart is because a partial vacuum is created between the halves. When there is a coin filling the void, the vacuum cannot be created. Whether there is a flattened edge or not, the easiest way to get them apart is with an X-ACTO knife. Press the sharp edge of the blade into the joint and they're apart in a couple of seconds. I use separate ZipLoc bags to store the tops and bottoms.

PS. I have about 300 of the 44mm AirTites with the accent ring but I don't use them anymore.
