NGC Grading of Walling Liberty Half

4 posts in this topic

I'm looking to purchase a 1921-D Walking Liberty Half from a local dealer. He has it graded at a VG-10. It looks every bit of a VG coin except for a couple of very very small nicks just below the motto "In God We Trust" on the obverse. They look like they came from when the was in pocket change, back when it was in circulation and look like normal wear for the grade.

I'd like to send the coin in to get it slabbed by NGC. Will these "nicks" cause NGC not to slab the coin or lower it's grade (VG-10 to VG-8)?

Thanks,

Ron

Your coin will be graded on the merits of wear. Providing the "ticks" are not gouges or major scratches, they will have no bearing on grade. At VG 10, there are expected to be scattered contact marks thoughout the coin. Just make sure the coin is real, since '21, '21D and '21S are heavily counterfeited.

If you decide not to purchase it, let me know how to get in touch with the dealer. takeit.gif

The last remaining hole in my WL set is 1921D.
