makepoint.gif I don't know what I am doing wrong with this el cheapo scanner....I am setting the resolution at 600 and the size at 100% . (See 1969 S in picture) Sometimes I have to adjust the brightness or contrast but on my screen I see the details but when the computer saves it for web display the details are lost? Can anyone help?

Well, you are not scanning at 600 dpi or the image would be bigger than what would fill the screen. Actually, I should say, you are not SAVING it as 600 dpi. What graphics program are you using to scan the image into and then adjust the size and brightness and contrast? You are adjusting the brightness incorrectly, it is too bright and the contrast is all wrong too. Let me know what software you are using and then we can go from there.

It looks like some sort of adjustment is being made to the scanned image, and it's throwing off the contrast, or brightness or something.

If your scanner is an HP, it has a copy lighten/darker setting in the copy settings. This may be your problem.

It's a HP 1315v scanner and it saves to kodak pictures then I upload . I have tried to do it another way and make the pictures bigger , rather than save as "best for web" but the forum won't allow anything over 20000 file size.

lower your dpi(Dots per inch) and then make the pictures bigger... thats what I used to do when I scanned coins..

Thank you very very much. I tried it and it seemed to work on another coin. I am experimenting with different settings now . I have to convince myself that this is a 1969 S ddo because I will be submitting some in Jan. Thanks again.
