1939-D Mercury dime, NGC MS-69*, stupendously beautiful coin!

James, I've heard that Mercury spent two round trips to PCGS looking for a cross. It (obiously) didn't make it.

Pretty coin, but probably a 68 in hand.

That's odd since several of the PCGS MS69s used to be MS67s at other services. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif BTW, they were way overgraded as MS69s.

It is, after all, some of jom's best work!

Nah....the ones Greg mentioned that got the 69 grade at PCGS are my best jobs.

Thanks anyway. grin.gif

PS: Tom's coin kicks the [embarrassing lack of self control] out of the teletrade coin. Time to resubmit Tom!

893scratchchin-thumb.gif Hey Jom, if he does resubmit the coin, it's still the same coin. Shouldn't people learn to grade for themselves? Isn't all this resubmitting bad for the hobby? poke2.gif

But it may not be the same grade. As we ALL know grade is a function of TIME given the current state of the TPG's. 27_laughing.gif

Yes, but what's that got to do with this?

Isn't all this resubmitting bad for the hobby?

Not really.

My suggestion, half in jest, only qualifies if Tom intends to sell the coin. I'm fairly certain he isn't so I wouldn't bother with a resubmission in that case.

Thanks chinook! I think I have already mentioned it on the boards so I won't go into the details too deeply, but this coin was bought from Larry Shepherd before monstrous premiums for wonderfully toned coins were the norm. He had it in a case and it was NOT FOR SALE but I badgered him enough about the coin that he finally broke and threw a number out there. Well, I bought it! grin.gif To this day, whenever we see each other at shows, he groans and says to me "I should never have sold that dime to you". smile.gif

Tom, A really great coin. I have only seen two toned Mercury Dimes that have made me say WOW and you owned them both

Those are some serious words to hear from ArtR. Thanks! grin.gif By the way, if you ever want to sell me that Peace dollar that thwacked me about the face, just let me know. wink.gifhail.gif
