Hawaiian Coins

6 posts in this topic

I have some 1883 Hawaiian coins, 1 dollar, 50 cent, quarter, and dime. I am looking to sell them, and was hoping someone could let me know approximately what they're worth. Thanks

They can be worth quite a bit depending on condition, especially the 50 cent and dollar. The quarter and dime are more common, but still popular. Many of them were cleaned. How harshly they were cleaned will affect the value (the more harshly cleaned, the more the value drops). If you can post pictures of them we can give you a better idea of the value.

You should check with a "REDBOOK" to get a bit more information on the coins, and if you check auction archives at Ebay, Heritage, Teletrade, etc...... you can get a better feel for actual value, as the values listed in the Redbook tend to be inflated.

Thanks for the help, I'll try to get some pictures on soon. My husbands Dad was from Hawaii (not Hawaiin, but was born and raised there) therefore, we have a lot of Hawaiiana including the coins (we only have one $1 but we have 7 or 8 $.50 cent pieces, 15 or 16 $.25 cent pieces and 4 or 5 $.10 cent pieces. They've just been sitting in a box for years and years, so we thought we might try to do something with some of them.
