Anyone notice something odd about this?...I won an NGC MS-62* Morgan on eBay

Seems a bit of a low grade for a * but why not, have a link?

Nope. It used to be the coin needed to grade MS63-69 to get the designation. I asked Mark Salzberg at ANA if they were going to expand it and he said it was under consideration, but I've heard no news that they actually did it.

 

Or perhaps it was a mistake and should not have been slabbed like that? Or maybe the coin was graded MS63*, but downgraded to MS62 by the finalizer/verifier, but the Star stuck.

Interesting. First, I think that's a beautiful specimen - congratulations! Second, that coin was probably graded at least two years ago, so I wonder if the NGC team were making exceptions to the star grading guidelines for coins from the Binion hoard?

I wasn't even aware that the Binion Collection coins did not have NGC marked on the label.
