Here are the images that Michael attached to his earlier posts.

I have know idea if this color -- which I see as orange -- is seen on matte proof 1c. If it's original, I like the coin as PR-67 RB.

You always are coming up with the coolest coins Michael. hail.gif

I have seen darker cents then yours and they were graded RD’s by both NGC and PCGS in newer holders, but the reverse does have some deeper red toning that could make it a RB. confused-smiley-013.gif

From the photo it looks like a PF66 to me, I can’t see any distractions in the way of nicks and scratches, and the strike looks real good. This is an outstanding example of the matte proofs from the early 20th century. 893applaud-thumb.gif

What I really like about this type of proof is the way the satin finish in the fields seems to make the devices of the coin blend into the fields; with the single texture over both and the softening of the edges of the devices. cloud9.gif

the coin is totally original unmessed with(thumbs up no brainer in fact cool.gif

but since matte proofs like this are rare and TOTALLY ESOTERIC AND forgotten in todays marketplace and usually not ever seen as such it is hard to understand unless you have done and specialized in these coins if you ever get to see as such

rexcat you have extremely great observation and knowledgable coin collector skills for just a photograph! 893applaud-thumb.gif

oh and i apologise you can change your responsee if you waNT TO but the "brown" you are seeing on the obvesrse and reverse is not brown at all but toning that is a green coloration the kind and shade usually seen on these matte proofs when they first start to turn colors due to long term storaGE/humidity conditions in their original mint tissue wrappers

I would grade it a 67 RB.....very clean surfaces and I feel it has enough red and pop to get the designation. I believe the services might designate it a RB.....but from what I can see that would be doing this coin a disservice........really doesn't matter though as it is a great coin with a ton of eye appeal regardless of the label.

A coin to desire angel.gif. 66 or 67 RB (probably a 66), although it's really just RD. The patina is superb - coppery! with just a hint of red and blue. I love it. cloud9.gif It's a very rare matte proof from '09 to be found with effectively no carbon spots (even though with the extreme enlargement you can see some tiny spots). But the surfaces SCREAM originality - no dippage.

Another superb coin, Michael.

thanks all well i will reveal the grade to you

and also something about the services MY OPINION and remember opinions are like [embarrassing lack of self control]holes everybodys got one

this coin sits in an ngc pf 65 rb holder 893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gifshy.gif

this coin was graded at the last ngc trade and grade about a week or two ago

see the services had been putting many matte proofs in red rb holders that are just not so devil.gif they are close very close but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

so within the last couple of years or so they have really cracked down and went the other way in terms of grading them monster conservative and with this coin it is clearly undergraded and underdesignated not an pf65 in my minds eye it is easy pf66+ but lets err on their side and say a liner 66 but man i wish i could get pf65 even ms lincolns in 65 holders that looked like this all day long ngc/pcgs and yes the large scans magnify the original surfaces of the coin but this is all we gots here

now this coin is essentially full red on the obverse and 95% full red on the reverse but in person sight seen it has a slighnt green coloration which is toning on both sides so this negates the red designatyion but man oh man it is not rb nor is it red and i could see it in a red holder 893blahblah.gif

i have seen many red graded pcgs and ngc matte proofs that are no where near as red as this coin but again i love it i would rather have this coin holdered as a rb 65 then rb 66 67 or red 65 66 as then i got to pony up three times++ as much or more for it easy

sell me any coins like this at a pf65 rb price

so PLEASE DISPEL THE NOTION THAT NGC OVERGRADES AND GIVES GIFTS....... BUY THE COIN NOT THE HOLDER clearly this is the most conservative graded and designated matte proof ngc/pcgs in a holder i have ever seen

I GUARANTEE YOU IF YOU PUT MOST PCGS AND NGC PROOF 65 RB MATTE PROOFS OF ANY DATE AGAINST THIS COIN THIS WILL BE ONE OF THE IF NOT THE ONLY FRONTRUNNER!!

buy the coin not the holder

myself i grade this 66++rb with it being so close to red it is not rb but with the green toning both sides sight seen in hand can only go into a rb holder

i love coins like this as out of this holder this coin is worth more raw!!

I have had the same recent experience with a coin and NGC. The grading right now is ultra conservative. I guess we can see this as a buying opportunity if we can find these undergraded coins among all the overgraded stuff.
