Do you think we'll see a spike in O mint coinage?

I'm still regretting passing on an 09-O half eagle a few years ago. The damn thing has done a x4 in price since. mad.gif893censored-thumb.gif

Why? Has the New Orleans mint been knocked out of operation? Perhaps they'll move the coin production to Denver. Seriously, this should have little impact in reality since the mint hasn't operated for nearly a century, and most of the O-mint coins were probably not in the city. Still as others have said, there will be shysters hyping them to take advantage of the tragedy. Personally, I took the three O-mint seated coins I had in my album and put them up for auction on another message board site with the proceeds to go to the relief effort. If the price spikes for those coins I'd be happy, otherwise I don't see much reason for a move outside the current sleeper status that michael noted.

I think there will be no impact. For one thing, the New Orleans mint was pretty prolific, and many coins were saved en masse. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me to see a national promoter try to take advantage of this misfortune.

Some of the later date "O" mint coins are already very scarce and pricey (i.e. 1909). I don't see much change unless the demographics of the destruction have substantially altered locally held populations.
