Story of local (St. Louis) interest, but coin-related

7 posts in this topic

Interesting story, James! I'm wondering if it wouldn't be possible to submerge a tumbler that holds the coins and tiny glass beads into an acetone bath. The combination of the two might work to remove most of the crud. Then the coins could be rinsed in baths of purified water and dried on racks of "chicken wire".

Just use SOS to scrub them clean.

One at a time? Be a kind heart and do it for them, Greg!

That's what the Boy Scouts are for.

Actually, they could probably put them in a cookie sheet with a little soapy water and scrub them with a wire brush. It's be a lot faster.

You can't save them for collectors but you could put them into an industrial vibratory bowl cleaner with water and extra fine grit abrasive cones. This would clean them, separate them and make them spendable to return in rolls to the bank.

I wasn't thinking of trying to save them for a collector, but I like your idea much better than Greg's. Scrubbing them on a cookie sheet would be too much like playing air hockey.
