Tennesse quarter rolls?

8 posts in this topic

I just happened to view this eBay auction where a two roll set (P&D) has already been bid up to $104 and there's still over a day left. Now with a quick check in CW I see that Virg Marshal is offer the P roll for $42 and the D roll for $24.75. Of course these are Unc. rolls but they aren't mint-wrapped. Do the mint-wrapped rolls actually command such a premium over bank-wrapped rolls or is this just an act of crazed bidders?

Yes, the US Mint rolls do bring a premium to certain collectors but there still isn't too much of a market for them. I believe that the mint sells them for $32.95 for the P&D roll set. The option was offered in early 2002 starting at around the Tennessee rolls, +/- a state issue. I still find the prices for the TN P rolls to be insane. What is the explanation? Perhaps just not enough to go around or perhaps just too much hype? It is a long way off from being low mintage so, what gives? Yet, the OH P roll, which was the lowest minted issue until MN P (?) came by demands no premium whatsoever. Strange.

I actually started buying the US Mint rolls with Indiana and stopped with Texas. When I was at the Hot Springs, Arkansas coin show in January 2004, I had the coin's designer sign and date both rolls for me. I carry those around with me looking for the opportunity to get ex-president Bill Clinton to sign and date them as well. Perhaps just wishful thinking?

I though you didn't like Clinton? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

BTW Maybe it's just that all those Redneck hillbillies in Tennesse are hoarding all the rolls they can get there hands on;thus driving up prices?

I was actually born in Arkansas and find a connection there. I can easily disassociate myself from politics and controversy even though I was well versed in the subject. I'm just not an argumentative type of guy. It is completely unproductive.

Case in point: perhaps you, too, should enroll in the School of Wit ? You would certainly get an a$$-whooping talking that away face to face with some of the good ole boys in all parts of the country. And that ain't no lie...
