1918 Double Date Merc?

3 posts in this topic

A friend brought into work a 1918 Merc Dime (P mint) thinking it may be a double date. Took it home and under a stereo miscroscope it sure looks like a double date. Not strongly seperated but definitely there. Now he hasn't seen any refs to an 18-P double date and I couldn't find any either. Anyone have info on this?

Thanks.

povertyrow,

I cannot find any reference to a double die or over date 1918 dime. It may have some slight machine doubling and that is what you see. Maybe one of the other board members will know more about this as mercury dimes are not my specialty.

Good luck

John

Is the doubling distict with even relief between the numbers or does it look like a "flat shelf-like secondary image" and is noticibly lower relief than the primary image?
