2000 Die Crack?

8 posts in this topic

If you are referring to the mark from the base of the memorial south-southeast toward the base of the "T", it looks too straight and uniform to be a crack. It could be a die gouge. Both a crack and a gouge would appear to be elevated above the surface of the field?

I always though that a die gouge was more of like a hit into the die causing a raised impression(the opposite of an incuse ding),whereas a die crack was in more of a straight line but not restricted to being exactly straight. This looks like a crack to me,but you all correct me if I'm wrong.

As Becky assessed, the "I" of AMERICA has a die crack that extends left into the upper building. Die cracks are quite common in this general area on the reverse due to the inherent weakness of the die and its orientation with the obverse die. As far as what's near the "T" of CENT -- hard to tell just with the pic alone. Could be post mint.

It looks like there is a nice little crack running through the I in America. The mark near the T looks like post mint damage.

Yeah, Becky! I missed that one while focusing my attention on the other.

Hey, Billy! I sent you something in the mail. You should be getting it NLT Monday if you haven't already received it.
