better scan of 1937ddo

All four digits on this coin should have a secondary image peaking out from the south and east and I simply don't see any evidence of this on your coin. It looks like a typical 1937 Washington.

Maybe it's not the well-known 1937 DDO, as it almost looks like there's a bit of doubling under the 7 and 3. Maybe it's just the lighting though. Why don't you edit the picture and some arrows pointing out the doubling...

I can do that but I don't want to irritate alot of people here. I do appreciate all of the advice from everyone but I just feel convinced that this is one. I have a better program that will scan with more resolution but I can't get it to work right. I will edit this photo with arrows and repost it. Thanks.

I still don't see it. You're not irritating me, so keep posting better images. If it is there, it will jump out and we'll see it eventually.

dogsrmylife - I see what you're speaking of and it looks like classic die deterioration doubling. It's only in its beginning stages. This type of doubling occurs in all directions from devices and is quite commonly noticed in peripheral lettering/numbers, such as what you are seeing on your quarter.

Hoot's quite the expert and I agree with him on this one. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of a real '37 DDO on my computer somewhere that I'll try to post for you.

BTW It doesn't irritate me at all for you to post all these coins for attributation. Even though you haven't found anything yet, with a watchful eye like yours I'm sure you'll run across something in no time! thumbsup2.gif

Don't worry about posting too many photos in looking for help in attributing a variety. The quality of your photo (scan) makes it difficult to diagnose the doubling (yes, I do see the doubling). It is often helpful to have a photo of the full obverse so that others who are knowledgeable in varieties of a particular series can look for die markers that help with attribution.

Hey thanks for the words of encouragement! I still don't understand how to copy and paste a photo directly to the board.

To paste a picture into your thread you attatch the picture as usual. You then click on the attachment to view it and copy the URL in the address box. From there you make your reply and click on Image in the Instant UBB Code area to the left of the Smileys and all.In the pop up window you paste the URL and just hit Continue below and Wala! Instant pics! Keep up the good work!
