Picked Up My First Trade Dollar Today

1874-CC PCGS MS62 ... I figured that I could expand my CC Morgan collection to include all CC issues, except for gold. This one has two neat chop marks on the reverse.1874CCo.jpg

Looks cruddy, but somehow, I like it.

One thing I will never understand is, how can a chopped Trade Dollar be mint state? You can try to explain all you want to, but I will never buy it. JMO.

The coin is not truly "uncirculated" (as it shows clear evidence of circulation), but it has unc details.

My first trade dollar was an 1875-CC with a single chop (also unc details). thumbsup2.gif

I like it. Sort of cruddy, indeed, and highly original. The expression on the eagle's face makes it look like that one chop hurt. thumbsup2.gif

Mint State means no signs of wear. It does not mean the coin was never used in commerce.

The coin left the Mint without chops. Now has chops.

Again, as far as I'm concerned, it is no longer mint state, or uncirculated.

BTW, I still like the 74-CC better. grin.gif
