Aluminum Penny on eBay

36 posts in this topic

From the above referenced website:

"It is unclear whether any of these latter pieces still exist. The Secret Service has said that it will confiscate any of these pieces should they turn up in the market place."

The eBay user has 2 feedback. Is this a poorly planned sting operation? Look at his username.

What ever happened to the one recently certified by ICG?

I do believe since the original family still owned it the coin was returned to them.

I just spoke with an agent at the local Secret Service field office. He had no knowledge of this specific coin. I gave him the item number and he literally looked it up. He read the description and basically said that if this coin is illegal to own the seller is basically admitting to violating the law in his description, and that they will look into it.

Only reason I contacted them is that I'm 99.9% sure this auction is a fake and this is just plain blatant BS this dude is trying to pull.

I wonder why someone would call the Feds on something so trivial? Maybe he really got one in change and has it for sale and just used the picture to show what it looks like?

Really? Why? I live in Columbus, Ohio. The seller is in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

I do not have an e-Bay account so I can't bid. I'm just wondering what is the big deal about this coin. They made 1.5 million of them, gave them out and some didn't make it back to the Mint when they were recalled. Somebody calls the Secret Service and most everyone else wants to see this seller get his (or her) balls busted. Maybe he's telling the truth?

It's the things myths are made of. It is the cent equivalent to the 1964 Peace dollar and the 1933 double eagle.

Plus, if the butthead is trying to scam people, then he needs to be busted!

I agree! Maybe Travis should remove himself to the "Comics Section".

No way is this legitimate.

Praise Allah....as certainly as the Earth upon which we walk is flat, this five-word pronouncement settled the matter for all Eternity. And all about me a murmur of agreement rose; for a great Truth had been spoken, and there was much nodding and beard stroking among the Learned. Many counted the day as blessed because they were present at It’s speaking.

I meant it more as a joke since i put the little grining guy after the chin rubbing emoticon.

Anyway the only way this auction could get any worse is if it was located in China. smirk.gif

In that slag heap of sarcasm there is truth. The truth being that there is no way this auction is legitimate.

The reason someone, as in I, would call the "feds" is because this auction is no doubt a scam. Also, in case you're also too stupid to know, they are the one's that handle this. If you have something to say, then say it. Don't be girly about it. If he rec'd one in change and is using a stock photo he should note it instead of making a false representation.

If he has a legitimate claim to it and he's legit then there's no problem is there. Laws are to be followed in this country.

Well dumb [embarrasing lack of self control]. If you think it's acceptable to let someone be ripped off then you are a big slimy dirtbag. You're probably the seller or his partner if you think this behavior is acceptable. Hell you probably worship Osama.
