What Kind of Flowing Hair 1795 Dollar with $1,000.00 Buy?

9 posts in this topic

I'm serious. I really want one but only have about 1K to spend. Will I have to settle for one that is holed and/or damaged?

Will it be worn out?

Any leads? I'd love to purchase one. Today, if that's not to much of a hassle.

Hello Pat-----About 2 years ago I helped a friend who had a B1---1795 Sent it to ANACS and it came back as Vf details----Net Fine 12 That coin was about the right original color but it had a few faults. My friend put it on Ebay and it brought 1950 at that time. So for one grand about all you will get in my opinion is a nice AG----IF THAT. Bob [supertooth]

Unfortunately it won't get a great example. I haven't seen many draped bust ones for that price that were nice and original.

Hi Pat,

John B. Hamrick currently has a 1795 FH 2-leaves, ANACS AG3, looking to be nice and problem-free, based on the image on his website, for $1400. It's been there for awhile. You might be able to negotiate a discount.

Disclaimer: not my coin, and I have no ties with him.

LINK Nice looking coin. I'll shoot him an email and see if he's got a bit of wiggle room on that one.

Now, do you believe it's best to get a problem free AG or would a VG with a plugged hole be better?

It would have to be better than a VG details for it to be holed and repaired and still netted AG. Personally I like these really rare coins with minor problems. Say Fine details (lightly) cleaned net VG 8. Or even VG details small rim bump net Good. I like having some detail on my coins...

Hey Pat,

Check out this Sunday's Teletrade Auction, Lot # 1650. Looks to me like Hamrick consigned it to TT, because they are the same coin, if you look at them closely.
