Seated Quarter grade opinions needed...Caution large pics!

Hayden----Ok---I"ll guess a technical grade of AU58----Too much rub on knees and left breast to be an unc IMHO-----Coin is too "bright" for my personal tastes as well. But coin has loads of nice "detail". Bob [supertooth]

At NGC, that's an EF45.

Wait...that's an 1854, not an 1853.

Ok, I'll go with AU58, cleaned, net BB.

Actually, I don't know if they would bag that or not. I don't like it that white, but I don't see any hairlines. Maybe it's just been dipped. Does it have any luster? It looks a bit flat in the picture.

I already learned that I cannot grade a Seated series coin only by looking at pictures. This one has a suspicious look to it that makes me wonder if it would be body bagged for cleaning. The luster certainly does not look to be right for a coin showing so much detail. As a guess if the coin is encapsulated I would say AU58.

I think I would say AU-55 to 58 as well! It doesn't look cleaned to me but it has been dipped. IMO.

I agree. Looks like it's been dipped to death. I see no luster.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. The coin itself appears to have been overdipped, there are no hairlines or overly distracting marks but while it isn't as dull as the pictures may make it look it has no cartwheel lustor at all. What I didn't know was whether or not it would go Unc. since it's almost right in between a slider and an Unc. As to whether or not NGC would BB it,I've seen coins worse than this in MS-60/62 holders but the way they've been grading lately you just can't rightly know...I'm probably going to give it a try in my next ANACS economy submission and if it comes back in a net holder it's only $10...

As to the "wierd" lighting,I only have one OTT-lite at the moment( frustrated.gif) but the picture acurately portrays the coin when it comes to details.Although when I do get additional OTT-lites I may post new pics on the boards.
