Sell or consignment-A followup thread from BlueMoon-What to do?

5 posts in this topic

Hi everyone-

Well after reading everyone's post on BlueMoon and whether a noobie like me should sell or consign coins to them, the general consensus was strong. Don't do it. So now I am stuck with the same problem. Where to sell coins if you don't like selling on ebay, or you feel your efforts in selling on ebay have not gone well. My problem is the latter. Great coins but they just do not produce a great deal of views and interest. I use Andale, and there help and models are nice, but still not alot of auction, especially when looking at anyone who sells even a fair amount. I guess it takes time to establish good skills, what works, etc.?

Many of the people who answered asked what kinds of coins. I have a large amount of Morgans, Anacs, NGC, ICG. 15-20 Washington's, all PCGS. 6-8 Jeffersons, PCGS, and some very nice halves. Most of these are PCI, but I bought each one for the coin itself, each is perfect from a deep mirror point of view. All are Pre-1964. I also have a 1991 China Gold Proof Set, 5 pieces. Only 3,000 of these were made, and this is the first year Chinese citizens can actually own gold now, so I expect these to continue in popularity. This is by no means all my coins, but these are the ones I am willing to part with right now, since a little renovation on my home over the winter is planned. If anyone can give me some names for sale or consignment, that would be great. I wrote down the names from the last thread, but I would appreciate them again, and anything else anyone knows about this part of selling coins. Thanks again from a newbie on the board.

Sincerely,

It sounds to me like you may want to sell these coins "sight seen" at a local coin show. I do not know were you live, but a local show might work for you.

Hi John. First of all, since you mentioned having many PCI slabs, I think you will need to be very prudent in how you handle selling those. Some PCI grades are just fine, but there's a lot of resistance to paying strong money for PCI coins because of the stigma associated with their grading standards.

I will send you a PM about this.
