Carson City Hoard

The coin in question sounds like a Coin Vault special. NGC incapsulates the coin, but doesn't put a grade on it. Coin Vault does this for a lot of their coins. Sometimes they have BU or other generic grades put on the slab. The "hoard" doesn't equate to a particular person, like a Benson pedigree, so I don't believe you could find out who owned it previously or else I believe that NGC would have put it on the holder.

A GSA would be pedigreed as such by NGC and I applaud them for keeping the coins in their original holders!! wink.gif

I believe it is referring to the 1972 sale by the government of silver dollars.

Perhaps better known as the GSA sale? confused-smiley-013.gif

What about Redfield?

I believe Redfield died in 1974 and his coins (400K-600K) were auctioned off after this.
