Teletrade noting "Old Slab"

7 posts in this topic

Has Teletrade used the "Old Slab" designation in their listings before? confused-smiley-013.gif

Sample of "Old Slab"

This seems to me to be an interesting ploy to get the newer cert collector to believe there is some higher potential for an upgrade and to "bid accordingly"...

Christo_pull_hair.gifJust bothers me when there are veiled implications that one can get something for nothing Christo_pull_hair.gif

...Very E-Bayish devil.gif

I agree. That's a bit disingenuous of them. I also don't appreciate the way overuse of "Rainbow". It kills the meaning as so many are common toned (or, even ugly toned).

Teletrade is more and more a disapointment these days.

I was just about to post that this morning. They also have some other new terms. Registry Quality,Low Mintage and Toned.

In the end all a bad idea except for the toned. Hopefully they will learn grey is not desrving of being called toned. Then use the rainbow designation on coins that deserve it.

I hate this old slab designation the most 893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gif

In the end it will hurt there consigners.

I had not seen these additional "Attributes", but I am not surprized. I hate the "Registry Quality" almost as much as "Old Slab" devil.gif...Don't really care about "Low Mintage" sleeping.gif (Stay away from "Low Pop" PLEASE)...Completely agree with "Toned" if it can be used to properly replace "Rainbow" for those coins that are not. thumbsup2.gif

Teletrade's been making me angry frustrated.gif lately, and I gotta wonder why I even bother looking there anyway. I mean honestly, the prices for what I collect are always better on ebay and there's always something going. Now more juice? That will only shaft the seller more because folks will bid accorcingly, which as we all know, means less$$$$ for the seller, who is already paying a cut.

Heritage is the place to auction your coins a couple hundred bucks and over, and under them, well, that's what ebay is for. I just can't see teletrade holding on. There's not really a niche for them. Don't know how long it'll take, but I think it's inevitable.

Please note- I hold no grudges against the company, in fact I have bought a few things there, some recently, although I paid too much! tonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.gifforeheadslap.gifforeheadslap.gifforeheadslap.gif

In the end Teletrade has to walk a tight rope to please both consigners and buyers. They are now in the end screwing both. Teletrade has a monopoly for what they do and tthey know that. They are arrogant and cocky because no onew threatens them... they will soon either have to start pleasing or die a slow painful death. A new kid will come along soon that will kill them unless they start changing. They are now like Coke in the 50's. They are cocky and don't see what is coming. They will realize soon enough... but by then it will be too late.

I also looked at the other new designations today and they seem find and will help consigners. However low mintage should be replaced with "key date".
