A Very Pretty Mercury Dime

13 posts in this topic

This is a very pretty Mercury dime that I own and I thought I would share it with everyone. The coin actually does look like the images, only nicer. 893whatthe.gif

Before I even opened the thread I KNEW it was a 39-D. grin.gif

As you probably remember there was a "roll" of these that hit the market circa 1995/96 of 39-D's. Every one I saw was similar to this one. Pinnicle had the only (at the time) MS69 from this bunch and was asking $5k or so. That was outrageous then. In fact, it would be outrageous now. 27_laughing.gif

I'm guessing this is your coin with a nice new pic. Nice job!

PS: I told you a new camera would beat the hell out of those scans you used to do. tongue.gif

Actually, this is not the Pinnacle coin. I have owned this coin for several years and have compared it to a PCGS MS69FB 1939-D and my coin was far superior to that coin. Even the owner of that coin admitted mine was easily the nicer of the two. This coin is only graded PCGS MS68FB but it was graded a while ago as it is in the older green holder.

Yeah, I knew that...I think you told me some time ago as I think I asked you once.

I almost bought an MS76FB from Whitlow back then but I passed due to a hit on the cheek that kind of bugged me. Not appropriate for a 67, IMO. Too bad as I never really did see another one that I could afford...then I quit collecting the dimes altogether so I was never able to aquire one of those. frown.gif

ONLY a 68FB and with great colors.

Not a bad coin at all to have in the collection.

Thanks for sharing. It's a beauty.
