I finally had some luck! I purchased what I thought was just a nice looking MS64 1930 Buffalo Nickel and upon inspection I found that the Bison had another leg!!!

It is a FS # 5c - 17.5! It has all the marks that is in the "THBN" by Wexler & etc.

I bought it off of eBay at $20 back of MS64 bid. The ANACS holder just has 1930 MS64. I don't know how they missed it. The seller missed it as well! I almost missed it! I just about look at everything I buy now.

Hoot; Do you know if NGC puts the FS number or just 5 leg on their holders on the 1930 DDR???

I don't know if I should send it to NGC, ANACS, or where???

Yes, NGC puts the FS number on the holder, but you must request the Variety Plus service and pay the extra 7 bucks. I like having the FS number. I just think this is a way cool find! cool.gifcool.gifcool.gifyay.gifyay.gifyay.gif

"The ANACS holder just has 1930 MS64."

That's a major attribution failure on ANACS! Is it in an old holder or more recent one?

Congrats! Tuff DDR and great cherry. If it was me -- I would go with NGC, however, whatever TPGS, you have a winner! hail.gif

I don't know how to date ANACS holders but the holder is a little bit bigger than most of the other ANACS holders I have.

Does the front of the holder look like this?

No it isn't an old ANA holder. It has a one million + number on it and it is the larger size holder.

If you don't request attribution research, or note the variety for them to verify, they are simply going to slab the coin.

Similar to submitting a bust half dollar, and not notating the Overton number, or paying to have them notate it for you.

bigd5: I must disagree with you. ANACS should have caught that 5-legged variety. It is easy to recognize. I submitted a 1953-D dime to them which I knew had a minor RPM. However, I submitted the dime only because it was beautifully rainbow toned and did not list for RPM or pay for attribution service. The coin came back graded and annotated with the RPM attribution as well. They spotted the very minor RPM. They should have spotted the 5-legged as well.

None of the TPS will go out of their way to recognize varieties. I submitted a coin that has a rare but popular overdate variety to PCGS. They slabbed it without noting the overdate. I had to resubmit. The difference between the overdate and non-overdate in the grade is about $8000.
