WAL-Mart is selling coins!

74 posts in this topic

Thats right. My wife said they were selling Buffalo nickels near the checkout. One old Buff and one 2005 Buff in a small case for $20. Also three old Buffalos in a small case for $9. This makes Littleton look like wholesalers, huh?

ph my over priced packaged love at love-mart

many will buy these coins as they think love-mart is a low price leader and since the average customer is a red neck and/or lower class in socio-economic status and also in class and couth

this will seal the deal for many coin sales

There were so many things wrong with that statement I don't know where to begin.

94% of Wal-Marts coustomers make less than 100,000 dollars. That is a large hunk of America. Now of that 94 % most of them can't be poor and I don't know what being a redneck has to do with it. Remember most folks who are rednecks or has parts of the family tree with rednecks are actually proud of it. Trust me somewhere very close in my family tree there are rednecks. MANY of them are some how rednecks. It is actually really neat. headbang.gif Please give us your definitioin of a redneck. Depending on your definiton It will only take me going back one generation to find a redneck.

anyway 100 million people shop every week at Wal-Mart's more than 3,600 U.S. stores. There are only 296,656,658 people in the US. Over 90% of the US shops at Wal-Mart at least once a year. I will get the exact percentage in a minute.

Besides unless you collect coins you don't know the value. So even if you have a PHD you still don't know coin prices and it may seem like a good deal. I doubt being poor has anything to do with it.

I wasn't sure whether he had passed or not (although I remember stories about the next generation of Waltons). The mental picture of retail gurus Chambers and Walton hatching this scheme while playing golf just tickled my funny bone.

Say . . . your rant on Wal-Mart isn't an attempt to prompt the kind of incident (and end result) that occurred across the street, is it? 893whatthe.gif

That is a funny image. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Well that really isn't a rant as much as stating figures. Besides what is more fun than going off on some redneck tangent. confused-smiley-013.gif Thist is really more of a good natured mini rant.

After writing that though now I have a craving for a ski and a moon pie

I recently got some discount coupons in the mail from Wal Mart and one was for 25% off on an 1893-S Morgan $, MS67. Geez, I thought they were kidding so I just threw it away.

Okay, my first post and I'm not one for the whole chatting thing.

Who has the (fill in the blanks...probably can't say it here) to rate those that shop at Walmart as being rednecks? Personally, I stay at home with three children, own the suburban home, drive the SUV, and shop at Walmart for the sales on cleaning supplies, pet supplies etc. I'm not saying I'd ever buy a coin there....that'd be like buying an antique there of which I have an extensive collection but; in their favor, they do carry a type of oil for antiques I can hardly find anywhere else. For that reason alone, I will be a loyal customer until they stop carrying that one item since no one else has it. Enough about that though, back on topic.....

Anyway, I was just looking around to see if there was a board regarding turnaround times on express grading. My husband and his non-redneck job is actually getting transferred to another state and I'm getting a little worried because my forty-eight hours are about up and my status is still in "quality control". I'm supposed to be moving in a week and I'm getting nervous because I'd hate for the next homeowners to get my coins as well.

Yes, there is. Link Express grading is running at the stated 48 hour turnaround time.

Your package will be shipped by Registered Mail and will require a signature. Provided you have notified your Post Office (and hopefully also your mailman) that you are moving, there should be no problem.

Actually, I contacted someone in the customer service department and changed to Fedex for my shipping so, I'm hoping whomever replied regarding my shipping noticed that! Or, please do! Anyway, when do the forty-eight hours start, I'm dying to see how my coins did and they seem to be staying at the same status:) I feel like a new mom again!

Thank you James for the Welcome, it is so nice to actually have a place to come and find out about coins.....I've been lost for the last few months trying to figure this coin collecting thing out. Wow, it's so entailed. Plus, I'm finding it rather addictive! I've already seen some collections that I'd like to get into that I don't have among the many I have to still organize and figure out.

So far people here have been so helpful, it's been great!

Welcome Shannon.

My wife is a stay at home mom (quit her engineering job when our daughter was born), we own a home, are thinking about getting an SUV and we frequently shop at Wal-Mart (no good coins at our Kroger, though WinDixie will occasionally have a "prime" coin). I also live in Alabama, so by definition I am a redneck. But I'm still in the upper middle class, hold a masters degree in Physics and rarely get accused of being uncouth. I also use proper English most of the time and know how to puctuate correctly and write complete sentences. I've never bought a coin at Wal-Mart but I buy many on eBay which michael despises more than he seems to despise Wal-Mart.

Good luck on your submissions and have good move. And don't forget to come back and post more. thumbsup2.gif

Thank you for the welcome RGT, I can relate to what you're saying. I don't know if I still maintain proper english and I probably don't write my sentences as well as I did in college (you're one up on me), it's so easy to get lazy, but I still believe I'm doing okay.

I am guilty of buying a coin or two off ebay and if I found a worthy Buffalo nickel for a discounted price at Walmart and it had been graded by NGC or PGCS, you bet I'd buy it! I'm all for a good buy. However, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Thank you again for the welcome. I almost was a neighbor in Alabama with my husbands transfer as he is a supervisor for UP, however they sent him to Oregon instead. I think we're going to a redneck type town though, so here's a toast to both of us smile.gif Who know's, with a smaller population I may be able to find better coins around that area....too many people digging around here!

The day th coin is received. However, 48 hours is an ESTIMATE. If the coin was in Quality Control yesterday, it should USUALLY show the final results no later than today. If it went into QC this morning, you have a good shot at seeing the final results later today.

NGC is pretty fast with their Express Grading.

Thank you! I'm dying over here! Who knows, I may have them all sent back. In which case hubby may be a bit miffed, but no biggie. I just feel like a kid waiting for Christmas right now, my friends are teasing me for being so excited about it. So, I will just keep checking every two minutes and in the meantime I'll bug everyone around here. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

UGH!!! What time is it in Florida?? I think they've been visiting Quality Control since twelve (my time, pacific) yesterday. Oh well, at least I'm entering some coins into my coin program thing. makepoint.gif

If the grades don't post by about 1:45 PST at the latest, you're not going to get grades that day. At least that has been my experience.

I wonder if I can buy them in Bulk at Sams 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I will see while I am buying a 200 CT pack of TP grin.gif

I just saw that, that is way too funny. I would be at Sam's Club way more than I am already. How convenient would it be to buy a complete, certified set all in one place?

I am still stuck at Quality Control! It's reminding me of a David Bowie song. If anyone get's that, please let me know. Oh well, maybe they'll come in the mail. Or perhaps the pictures will show up in my email. I will hold on to any string of hope as I am sure it is five pm on the East Coast. 893blahblah.gif893blahblah.gif893blahblah.gif893blahblah.gif893blahblah.gif893blahblah.gif

Okay, so on the bright side they went past the forty-eight hours and I get a freebie? Or, my coins may be in route and the grades just didn't get posted? I know, I'm childlike...sorry angel.gif

No. The turnaround time isn't guaranteed. It is an estimate.

I'm not sure if any service truely guarantees the turnaround time with free submissions.

ANACS has a guarantee, but I'm not sure what you get if they miss the turnaround time.

PCGS has one and you are supposed to get freebies if they miss it, but they are scumbags and lie and play games and screw you over, so don't expect anything.

ICG has a guarantee, but I'm not sure what you get if they miss the turnaround time.

As far as I know, when your coins show as shipped, they are *ready to be shipped* and will go out that day. If they don't show as shipped, they aren't ready.

AAAAAH!!!! I was thinking of PCGS, which I am getting the clue about however, I'm on such a tight timeframe and because our house isn't closing for a while longer than expected.....we're going there and having to find a rental. I have no forwarding address. That's why I did express and paid for Fedex as well. It does say it's an estimate, I just figured for the price......... confused-smiley-013.gif

Well, I guess I'll just go back to putting my coins into this dang computer program. Hopefully tomorrow or something like that. Thank you for all your help Greg, I'll keep spying on the boards as I need to learn all I can right now.

Oh, and ANACS isn't an option unless it's for something I'm not really serious about or my thirteen year old decides she wants to certify a coin she found on the street and has to live and learn. I've seen what the difference is and I haven't been doing this very long! tonofbricks.giffrustrated.giftonofbricks.gif
