Question on the 1846 Cent?

3 posts in this topic

I been going thru my old boxes of coins to sort out since it's so hot outside to do anything. Came across an 1846 Cent with the complete date widely re-punched to the west. Looks exactly like the picture in Walter Breen's, "Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins" on page 212 of which is listed as Breen 1890; Newcomb 4, "1846 Doubled small date." This is the only reference I have in my library showing this RPD for this date.

Is this another one of those fairly common RPD coins? Get it slabbed? Or coin-tinue looking at coins? Any info appreciated. Thanks...
