Just recieved a brochure in the mail for the Marine commems. Looked on the back and this year the mint is hawking prestiege proof sets again. They are called the 2005 US mint American legacy collection. Only 135.00 plus S&H. What are the feelings on this? Maybe from those who were around when the mint made these the first time. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I don't have any problems with it,but everyone knows that it's just another way for the mint to make $$$s.I personally won't be buying one,but it's still a neat set-up...

I'm going to buy all of them. I've already got the John Marshall PF & UNC, and I'll get the USMC PF & UNC, the USMC UNC & 3c Iwo Jima stamp and the Prestige Set with both PF $'s. Then I'll have my Mom make a nice shadowbox with a velour or velvet lining set over archival foamcore. The foamcore will have recesses cut out to mount everything. Then, I'll have a small brass plate engraved with "Legacies of Freedom" to mount on the exterior of a nice wood frame, possibly mahogany.

Yes, I know, the Mint already has a 2-coin set (U.S. & British) entitled "Legacies of Freedom", but I think my set will be more appropriate and look a heck of a lot more impressive.

$135 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

Gregory, I'll be laughing when I sell my five sets for $200 bucks plus on e-bay.

I feel very strongly that all of the Marine Corp issues will do nothing but appreciate. Afterall, the Marine Corp is the only branch of the military that views themselves as "once a Marine always a Marine". I spent six years active duty in the Navy and I certainly don't view myself as "once a Squid always a Squid". This will place heavy demand upon the issue similarly to the Law Enforcement Commemorative Dollar.

I'm going to buy 10 each of the BU's and of the proofs and five of the coin/stamp set. These will all be sold later at a profit except for the ones which I shall keep for my commemorative dollar set. I have zero doubt of this blatant statement.

I'm gonna buy the coin/stamp combo. It's cool the stamp was made way back in '45.

I gave up on buying just to re-sell. I cant blame anyone for doing this though. I made out like a bandit on those Buff dollars/sets, but then again, I really liked them at the time.
