I've been working on my coin photography.

I've been really working hard at it.

There are a handful of really great coin photographers on some of the forums I've seen.

I know that I really enjoy imaging coins. It's like a hobby inside of a hobby.

Maybe Heritage wants some help?

I wish I could hear the dial-uppers groan at this thread- that would be awesome!

Really, really nice coins. Even better photography. Keep up the great work!

Here are a couple of my images. I am still playing with the lighting and trying to get my camera to focus properly. I realize that the images are of an angle on the coins. What can I do to get straight-on images to work right?

"What can I do to get straight-on images to work right?"

Shooting with an SLR helps because you can shoot the coins from a foot or so from the coin rather than a couple of inches. I had the same trouble when I shot with a Sony Mavica. I had to shoot so close to the coin that is was difficult to get straight on images.

"Are there any forums that you can recommend for those of us that want to improve our coin photography skills?"

Here and the PCGS forums both have many threads related to coin photography and helpful hints. I'll bet guys like cosmicdebris, K6AZ and mgoodm3 (there are more, but these are just a couple that come right ot mind) would be more than helpful in offering hints on how to produce really exceptional images.

Here is a forum for Micro, Macro, and Close-up Photography. It is a Nikonians forum, but the techniques for lighting, set-up, etc. work for any camera. There are a lot of full-time professionals posting there and can answer about any question you have. http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=DCForumID63&conf=DCConfID5

I am probably one of the few folks that are just not that crazy about gold, but the pics of the pieces are very nice.

Love the Buffs and very nice pics of them also.

I wish that I had half the knack of some of the photographers on the forums.
