9 posts in this topic

I just spent the last 10 minutes playing the numismatic equvilant of where is waldo on a lincoln cent. The coin is circulated and die #3. People there is no D on that thing. For the past 10 mintues I have been using a 10 power loupe to look at this thing. There is nothing there.

How far do I have to go with the power untill this sick game ends frustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gifmad.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.gifChristo_pull_hair.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giftonofbricks.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.gif893censored-thumb.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.giffrustrated.gif

Die state #3 is not considered the "official" weak D and sells for SUBSTANTIALLY less than die state #2, strong reverse.

I know that. I also know that PCGS designates some non die 2 coins as no d. There is no D there. I am mainly just venting but I am also trying to figure out how much power I need to find the D!

I probably made this thread confusing. Thanks for the page but I allready read it. It is what I used to attribute the coin to die #3. For 10 minutes though I looked at that coin with a 10 power loupe and found no trace of a D what so ever. I know for a fact PCGS has attributed some no D cents that were not from die 2. Of course only real no d cents come from die 2. I also know that SEGS does the same thing and I have a free grading voucher to use so I am awaiting there reply to this. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif I also need to get ahold of ICG to see what there policy is. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

For the record I know the only actual no D cents come from die 2.

Of course I am sure late die 1922 cents such as mine have no D devil.gif

here's what you do....if you dont' see ANY trace of a D and the coin is problem free.........send it to PCGS or have someone submit it for you.

Then put it on ebay and let some sucker buy it even though it is not TRULY a NO D cent.

Die 2 is the only true NO D where the D was removed. Dies 1 and 3 were intermittently filled with grease, etc....

As far as I know PCGS is the ONLY reputable TPG that will for some reason slab the "Weak D's" (as anacs calls #1 and #3) as NO D's Weak Reverse.

You might as well capitalize on it but I would never own one.

I have personally known two instances of a collector being ripped off by a PCGS-certified 1922 No "D" weak reverse. In my opinion, it is asinine that any major grading service would dump this kind of nonsense on not-quite-fully-informed collectors. In one instance, I was able to help the collector get his money back, as it was within the time limit of the return policy, but in the other instance, it was an eBay purchase, and the collector was stuck. At the time, I estimated he was out some $600.

On a side note, I AM very much looking for a "weak D" for my set. It must be AU+ and have excellent obverse detail (considering the weak dies). I will gladly pay full trends for such a coin.

Amazingly that is how I have learned about the PCGS thing by people saying they know those who have been ripped off by it 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

That is my fear Even if I say in the description it is not a real NO d just a weak D with no d it will go for way more than it should.

I have been thinking that if I have Laura Sperber sign the slan and a letter verifying it as a wannabe no D cent I could auction it off as a Legend verified wannabe no D cent 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I agree though about the way they label it is kind of misleading. They need to label these so peolle know they are not ACTUAL no D cents 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
