WOW! I was under the impression the 1974 aluminum cent was subject to confiscation by the Secret Service?

This is really surprising! I wouldn't have thought anyone of the various services would take a chance on certifying such a risky coin....

That sounds about right. The timeline in the story is kind of odd. In fall of last year they were asked about it. They recieved it in late January. It is now July and only now they are announcing it. They were probably shopping around.

I didn't think that they were illegal if it was one of the specimens given to the congressmen.
