Someone ATS had posted that they found out that Oldhoopster had passed away last month from cancer. I know he posted here and was letting those that knew him know. I myself only knew him thru the forums and he always had informative posts.

I really hate to hear that. He would send me a PM every once in a while. He told me he was sick but I didnt realize he was that bad. I liked talking to the ole feller. Hate to hear he passed on. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

59?!?!? Alright guys, that’s just about enough of this. You really do need to knock this off. We’re supposed to live into our 80’s. Are we exposing ourselves to bad things in numismatics? Silver killing us?

My dad died at 60 years old in 2019. Thats awful young. He had sugar real bad and wouldnt give his legs up. He done lost half his feet on both sides. It resulted in a massive heart attack. Seems like alot of people are passing away at young ages here lately. Im also about to lose a brother in law any day now. Hes on hospice right now. Nothing else they can do for him. 45 years old. Its colon cancer also.

Old Hoopster sure led a interesting life. Thanks for sharing his obituary @AdamWL. I really enjoyed talking to him on here. Wish he wouldve stayed around. He shared some productive post on here.

Oldhoopster was a smart, helpful collector.  He brought a lot of value to this forum and ATS.  He will be missed for sure.  His life was cut way too short.  My condolences to his friends and family.

An OldHoopster story...  When I was first starting, I found a "doubled-die" Kennedy Half Dollar.  I posted it here.  The Hoopster explained that it was mechanical doubling, why he knew it was not a doubled die, and gave me the resources to understand all the classes of DD.  I remember being so disappointed but grateful, because I now had the resources to avoid repeating my mistakes.  He was no nonsense, but fair and good-hearted.  He taught me what mechanical doubling is and how to identify it.  

It's truly a lesson that every collector needs, and now I have that knowledge for life.  Hoopster taught me in a way that was direct, but didn't make me feel discouraged.  Thinking about this now... he probably answered this question hundreds of times.  It could have been easy for him to be frustrated with such a repetitive question, rip me up-and-down, make a mockery, or simply shut me down.  He didn't do any of those things, and I didn't forget that.

...no its the grading...trying to get to the 70 threshold....

Years ago, after constant urgings and reminders from my mother to get a colonoscopy, I got one.

I still remember waking up and the doctor whispered in my ear, "I saved your life today. I removed a large polyp."

I think I was still in my thirties.

Since then, I've had at least two more... probably due for another.

I need to have one done. Ive never had one and I just hit 40. If my brother in law had had one he may not be sitting and waiting to die at any day now at 45 years old. He was in his 30s when he first found out. Been nice if they coulda found it early enough to do something bout it.

Got my first when i was 50.  I remember the anesthesiologist coming in she told me what she was going to do and how it was going to go. she then held my hand and said you may feel a little pinch... and that is all that i remembered until i woke up.....    i think i to the doc  that if we were in Georgia i think we would be married...  he got a chuckle..   i recommend anyone over 45 to start having them.. it is never too soon or too late to take care of yourself.

Gray toning up top. But for my complexion, the best I can hope for is to tone down the pasty blue. I’m Teutonic, not enough gin.
