One cent 1982 D, is it authentic or fake

You are apparently a victim of misinformation about 1982-D cents that has appeared on various popular websites.  In fact, over six billion 1982-D cents were minted.  In the second half of 1982 the mint changed the composition of cents from solid brass (95% copper, 5% zinc, 3.11 grams, and referred to as "copper" or sometimes as "bronze") to a nearly pure zinc blank that was electroplated with copper (2.5 grams and referred to as "zinc").  The mint also modified the obverse ("heads" side) dies to have a smaller date and other modified features.  The large date coins were struck in ample quantities in both "copper" and "zinc".  It was believed that the "D" mint small date coins were struck only in zinc and are also common, but a year or so ago a 1982-D small date "copper" cent turned up   This is the coin that is valuable, not any other 1982-D cent that you would find in circulation.

As has been pointed out, your coin is a large date and in its current condition only worth face value without regard to its composition. See the photos on NGC "VarietyPlus" at Lincoln Cents, Memorial Reverse (1959-2008) | VarietyPlus® | NGC (ngccoin.com) (right click link for menu to open) to compare the different varieties of 1982 cents.

I agree its a common large date 1982-D Cent,  See the attached Infographic on that.  However, keep in mind that the odds of finding a 1982-D Small Date Copper Cent are astronomically small and virtually zero.  You would have better odds if you took 200 of those and bought a Power Ball lottery ticket. (:

FYI, to check the size of the 1982 date as indicated above, using your coin as an example, first rotate the coin picture so the date is level. Then draw a red rectangle around the date just touching the top and bottom of the "1" and "2".  I added that to your coin (must zoom in to see the rectangle), which shows that the "9" and "8" are larger that the "1" and "2".  In addition, the shape of the "2" is consistent with a "large date" 1982-D Cent.

Taliking about P lot coins, I am having all kinds of trouble finding any half dollor or dollar coins for my Parking Lot Short Set.  Very few quarters too.  Hard times I guess. (:

Apparently few people will stoop over to pick up a cent or nickel, and dimes can be hard to see. Evidently, quarters, halves, and dollar coins are worth the effort to bend over and pick up. I, on the other hand, will pick up any coin, regardless of denomination or condition. Unless it is in a urinal. One has to draw the line somewhere.

I pick up all coins EXCEPT Pennie’s that lie face down. Always told it was bad luck!

For dollar coins, check eastern Pennsylvania public sector break rooms. Also check most of the Southern California rail system - CalTrans as well as Amtrak.
