Variety: Commemorative Type
1 1

6 posts in this topic

Hello, first time submitter here! On the Online submission form, there is a space for "Variety" and the instructions say that can include "commemorative type." For a foreign coin, would this simply be a brief description of what the coin commemorates, or is this only for technical types/varieties (ie, as the instruction indicates, something like VDB or a 3-leg buffalo nickel).

Any help would be appreciated!

Variety would be something like Indian Head or Lincoln for 1909, Buffalo or Jefferson for 1938-D, or Morgan or Peace for 1921.

…or Maryland or San Diego for two commem examples. Or even Tennessee for state quarters, ATB quarters or Innovation Dollars.

What Kurt said is indeed true. It's amazing how many times a 1936 commemorative half dollar is submitted without anything to distinguish it from a regular Walking Liberty.
