That’s quite a white obverse! These babies tend to tone in the Coin & Currency package.

I noticed that. The reverse is light golden colored and the obverse is blast white. The half dollar is starting to tone around the rim as well.

I got this sweet lil’ number in my change last night from the gas station. First ever Buff I have found in the wild. I thought it was pretty cool. I saw it as soon as he put it in my hand. I don't roll hunt or anything like that so, finding something like this is a rare occurrence for me. Type 2 and Denver mint is all I could get out of her. Probably have to submit this one. You can clearly see doubling on the green paint.

This one just arrived Friday. Was an ebay auction and got a fairly decent deal on it. Nice and bright for a 57 Philly. Usually the planchets are pretty dark with a lot of flaws that won’t strike out. This one is not too bad but still has a few flaws. Nice full strike from dies that were in pretty good shape. The star is nice and sharp along with most of the other details. I am pleasantly surprised with this one. 

Here is a comparison to my other example which is also graded MS-66 5FS. Just hammers home the quality range you can have within the same grade.

  This is a 1955-D, D over S nickel, the Redbook variety, FS-501, in an old, small size ANACS holder graded MS 64.  While there are other 1955-D varieties that purportedly are over-mintmarked D over S, only this variety clearly shows most of the underlying "S".

I just lost an auction last week for a 55 D/S with the FS-501 designation. My example is just labeled as a D/S. I was hoping to pick up the other to compare and see how much better the FS-501 was. I know that those are the ones that are supposed to be the clearest examples. Here is my regular D/S.

@Lem E--Your 1955-D/S isn't bad, as you can see the whole top curve of the "S" above and to the left of the "D". I've seen some certified pieces on which all you can see is a vague curved line at the upper left of the "D", which isn't necessarily the remnant of an "S". The coin whose photos I posted was only designated "D over S" by ANACS but is clearly the "Redbook" variety, a.k.a. FS-501, which also shows much of the lower curve of the "S" inside the "D".
