There are no Mint State examples of Henning Nickels known. Also, there are none with full steps. Henning's dies were made via the "transfer process," so details are mushy. These "coins" looked circulated from the start. Henri Charriere

Oh, they got glances. First, Henning initially deposited A LOT of nickels with the same date. This caused some questions and spurred him to make more dates. The 1944 is the one that got him caught. A dealer found a 1944 and thought he had a new/rare variety with a missing MM, and later called the FBI. From there, Henning's days were numbered as he was hunted (and caught) by the Feds. He dumped most of his stash of coins in the Delaware River outside Philadelphia. Many of these were later found my the FBI's use of military grade metal detectors. I don't own one of these coins (of course), but if I did... It would look a LOT like the one I posted. I have a couple examples for reference, but I haven't sought out the other Henning dates among circulated nickels. zadok, Henri Charriere, Lem E and 2 others 4

Member: Seasoned Veteran Popular Post DWLange Posted September 19, 2022 Member: Seasoned Veteran Popular Post Share Posted September 19, 2022 A 1944 obverse was paired with a non-wartime reverse that was the common reverse for various dates struck by Henning. Buffalo Head
Just a couple of interesting facts about the United States nickel 5 cent pieces. The 1938 buffalo nickel was the last year an American Indian was portrayed on an American circulated coin. The other is, the 5 cent piece is the only American coin still struck today with the same alloy mix as it started with. Lots has changed, but the alloy stays the same. Enjoy your nickels, I know I do. Great thread. Edited September 22, 2022 by Buffalo Head Lem E and rrantique
