Anbody know of any VAMs I need to look out for?

VAM 6 - Doubled Obverse: Look for doubled ear and cotton blossom leaves on the right edges, date, all stars on right and left on bottom edges.

 

VAM 18 - Doubled Obverse: No specific details or illustrations provided in book.

 

VAM 24 - Doubled Cotton Leaves: Look for doubling on cotton bolls and leaves on right side. Eyelash doubled at top.

 

According to the book, these three are worth a modest premium in comparison to the other varieties.

I see 9 on eBay right now in the $40-55 range. A couple are 3rd editions. The latest is the 4th edition.

I likee. I just purchased a VAM book on eBay. I can't wait for it to come. I have about 30 Morgans just waiting to be checked for VAM attributions.

The Carson City mint mark has always carried an allure and a mystic for me even before they became so popular. I've been a naturalized Nevada since I was four years old so this state has lots of personal history for me as well as the intrique of the real Old West! As a matter of fact, I chose a very PQ ms65 1884 CC Morgan $ for my type set. It has already appreciated 50% since I bought it but I would most likely never sell it. It is definitely a worthy coin to counted among my type collection.

I just purchased a VAM book on eBay.

 

Now you need to order all of the updates! I think the pile is almost half as thick as the 4th edition of the VAM book. I picked them up earlier this year and it's been a great help having the printed pictures in front of you.. They can be ordered from Leroy Van Allen... address/price info on the ashmore site.

Absolutely wonderful coin, whoopig. Carson City Morgans are my favorite, so I'm a bit jealous.
