When I first met Tomaska, and bought his book, he was mostly a half dollar specialist. He was THE cameo proof Franklin Half Dollar guy.

When I first learned about him they was calling him the cameo king in the article I was reading. They was talking about him writting books on cameo coins.

I don't know what I was thinking. Thing is, I formally requested MA-SHOPS discontinue sending me notifications after @VKurtB recently posed a simple question concerning the mintage years of French 20-franc gold Angels (Genie) and Roosters (Coq) and I inadvertently discovered that NO Genie were minted in 1900, much less the 6 MA-SHOPS claimed were available in MS65--the rarest date, with a pop of 2, none finer--a coin I desperately needed... To me that potted plant w/logo was a provocation [slap in the face] and I reacted.

Are you boycotting all of the dealers who list through MA Shops or just the dealers with the incorrect information?  MA Shops is just a platform like V Coins where dealers can list there inventory.  Hopefully, you haven't eliminated a large source of European dealers from your rooster search

@Oldhoopster:

The majority of my holdings came through MA-SHOPS, a major conduit of dealers every last one of which I have sent Want Lists to only to be bombarded repeatedly with clearly inapplicable notifications for the past 18 months. The most recent notification, coming from CDMA via M-S, was frankly the last straw. I AM DONE.

Old Rick Tomaski and all of em trying to sell the 2021 Morgans. Seems like they are pretty desperate trying to unload them all.

Yeah, desperately trying to unload them at HUGE premiums.  If the price dropped $200, they'd sell alot faster....assuming they aren't selling at the current price which I'm not sure is the case.

Farther from the entrance - cheaper table rates - smaller dealers - more collector oriented. These are the guys that’ll mostly still be here on Saturday afternoon.

Are there very many dealers selling exonumia? How about paper money?

There were plentiful dealers of both paper money and exonumia, including the nation’s premier exonumia guy, Cunningham.

Glad you are enjoying it.  I find those neck bands uncomfortable.

When it comes to being uncomfortable, the lanyard is the LEAST of my worries. My right foot is at least a 7 out of 10 on the pain scale ALMOST all the time.

Ouch.  But for much of history most of adults suffered far more of a type of pain that most of us do not--dental.

A few dealers do cross over into coins and notes, but truthfully, most specialize in one or the other.

Looks like it was the place to be.

I've heard a lot of good things. I would have had to spend some time across the hall and buy something cool to drive home in.......

There were some nice reasonably priced cars at the Mecum sale. We could see the cars sold on Wednesday while coming down the escalator to the coin show. I saw a SUWEEEET VW camper van.

I verily say unto both you and Quintus that there is a meeting of the SOB’s coming up in Rosemont/Chicago next month. Yes, I refer to the Society of Bearded Numismatists, whose motto is “Whskers, Whiskey, and Wampum”.  The meeting will be on Thursday of the ANA show.

I’m bringing the whiskey doorprize, a bottle of 1792 Brand Kentucky Bourbon. 1792 is the year the U.S. Mint began operations.

That would be an awsome prize to win. Also the year Ky became a state.

I asked @VKurtB awhile back, so now I'll ask you: when do you use the term, Commonwealth?

Because the Pennsylvania constitution uses Commonwealth, not state to describe itself.  Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Virginia are also Commonwealths

True. Like any good lawyer, I know the answer before I ask the question. It's historically a bit more intricate that that but I am undeserving of the adulation you've allowed me to bask in. Just trying to contribute to the "body of knowledge." According to one source, there are two more: Puerto Rico and the North Mariana Islands but they are of "a different kind." I suspect that is why they are a part of that quarter series [I know little about and do not collect but will instinctively look for now that collectors on this Forum have alerted me to their presence. In particular, those mintmarked "W"]. (thumbsu

So you asked a question that you already knew the the answer, that had nothing to do about numismatics, and nobody else seemed to be asking for more info.  Ok, got it.

FYI - Being a commonwealth had nothing to do with them being added to the State Quarter series.  The were added with the rest of the US territories such as Guam, American Somoa, etc.

Nope. Those two, in particular, P.R &  NMI, were singled out and newbies everywhere, were introduced to a concept they were unfamiliar with: "Hey, I wonder why the North Marianas are on the state quarters?"  As a practical matter, P.R. flags (including renderings of their original one in light blue) are aflutter everywhere in El Barrio where they are Puerto Ricans first; war veterans may allow they are Americans.  I have never seen the U.S. flag and the P.R. flag, fly together. A breach of flag etiquette.  😉

I wonder whether pressing the pedal to the metal, intermittently, over a lifetime, is the source of your pain.  🤔

As a Pennsylvanian, I always have. As an Alabamian, “Whuuut?”

Nope. Part way through the state quarter program it was decided to including the Territories and DC.  There was nothing special about PR and NMI being a commonwealth.  They were just part of the program like the rest

Info from the mint.  Hope it helps clarify things
