Liberty Head $20, 1901-S - any chance this might be worth more than bullion? 0

I recently found it - was in my family for years, kept away somewhere. I tried estimating grade looking at similar coins, but truth be told - I can't tell anything

In that condition, I'd call it a bullion coin, worth about $1850 wholesale.

I would call it a family heirloom and not sell it until I had no other way to buy food.

It looks au-ish with a possible obverse wipe. I think it's pretty but numismatically, I think its a bullion piece.

That is a great coin and a really nice family heirloom.    There is some luster evident in your photos so I'd call the coin as AU50 or XF45.   At those grades the value is absolutely tied to the bullion value, but still a great coin to pass on to your family members when the time comes.

I agree with the others.  As far as monetary value goes, it's a bullion coin.  But, the value to your family as an heirloom is much, much more.  You really can't put a price on that kind of thing.  I'd definitely hold onto it unless you were in a desperate financial situation.  It's been in your family this long, it should stay there if at all possible

I have to agree with Coinbuf and say I rate it as XF 45.  I see no evidence of a prior or old cleaning.  Then again folks; we are judging by internet pictures and not coin in hand.
