Long Beach show: Thursday

Arrived at the show at 12PM. FIrst sign something was amiss, lots of free street parking available. Usually, street parking is packed, but not today. The show looked somewhat busy until about 2PM, then activity took a nose dive. Lots of coins offered, lots of tire kickers. I purchased a few toned commems which were hidden away. I really needed these coins, and have been looking for a while for a couple, so I was very pleased. Many of the empty tables were filled today. Much more exonumia tables in the back of the hall were filled, however, fewer stamp dealers. A funny occurence. A dealer who was a very strong buyer yesterday apparently ran out of money today. I stopped at his table and offered a coin, but before I could finish, he said, "sorry, done buying". Oh well. confused-smiley-013.gif I talked with several dealers again. A few were not as pessimistic as before and feel the market will come back toward the end of the year. Others believe that the market will adjust if dealers are willing to discount on a regular basis downward. Dealers were still tight on the wallet, but coins could be purchased well, especially if you were buying quantity. A few dealers were not willing to sell really nice coins at a discount, and would wait until ANA. Color coins were lacking, as usual. More scuttlebut on the "Coingate", and many feel this will be a lengthy process and will eventually die down. I don't agree, since the industry is just too small to ignore. I left at 4:30PM, very pleased with sales and purchases. I didn't make a ton of money, but sold what I needed.

Was the 1913 Liberty Nickel shown at Legend's Table?? Sounds like the middle of the market has cooled off, and the high end is just exploding.

Laura was noticibly absent from her table for two days. George was manning the table but gave no clue to the impending nickel deal. The nickel was not there when I was at the show.

That's odd since the few times I walked past the table Laura was there. Once she was in front of the table chatting. It may have been her clone since she seemed to be in a very good mood and was smiling and I think I even saw her laugh at one point.

I also did not see the nickel at the Legend table, but coins like that don't usually sit in a dealers case. They are displayed at the front section in special cases with a guard standing by.

Great show report TRUTH outside of not reporting the most important event of your day.

Please edit the above and correct.

In the 10 years I've known her, I've seen her truly happy only 3 or 4 times. Count yourself lucky! wink.gif

The nickel is on display, but not at Legend's table. Laura probably wasn't around much due to media interview demands and also she was working [successfully] on another 7 figure purchase.

So, what does the fact that he collects late die states have to do with drinking beer? confused-smiley-013.gif
