1878 8TF VAM?

5 posts in this topic

I’m usually pretty decent at the Morgan VAM game, but this one has me stumped. It’s and 8TF variety with very distinct doubling on the reverse, however I can’t match it to a known VAM. It seems to be missing some marker for all I can find. Any suggestions? I’m sure you may need more pictures of different features but I’ll post some to get started.

Closest I found was VAM14, but I admit I didn't spend but about 30 minutes looking.

Thanks Bob. 14 was my first thought but it’s missing some of the pick ups I think. I’ll look at it again tomorrow. It’s a neat coin and graded MS64, but clearly has some interesting characteristics.

Post it on VAMworld and ask for help.

I did and have been talking with them the last few days. It did turn out to be VAM 14.3 despite missing some of the pick ups. I think it was due to late die stage. If you ever have a VAM question that forum is very friendly and full of knowledge. Those guys know their Morgans.
