Steve Ham
Can someone tell me what the ASTERISK means behind the date on a coin that has been graded? Edited March 17, 2021 by Steve Ham
RWB
Have never seen an asterisk on a coin. Why would there be a reference relating to the date? Can you provide more information?

Well i dont have the coin back yet so i can not take picture but the asterisk is actually behind the grade....example: 1969 D 5C MS 65*. It's not on the coin, it's on the coin label. Sorry i did not make that clear. ANY IDEA'S???
bsshog40
What you are showing as an example is a "star" after the date. If it's like the one in the picture below, it means that they gave your coin a star for eye appeal. A good thing!! Lem E and Modwriter

Well i wish it had at least 4 full steps but it did not get a fs grade. That would have been a nice $$$ coin.

RWB
The star symbol indicates "superior eye appeal" - or maybe it's "I appeal" or "You appeal" or "sale appeal" or "appeal to a higher court" .... ? Meaning - nice for the grade. Steve Ham and Modwriter

I mean at MS65, price guide shows a value of $10. I'm sure grading fees were quite a bit more. Just curious!
Steve Ham
I was just hoping that it may pass as a four FS coin and it would have been a high dollar coin. As i have learned this go round of grading, even one that you know is 5 FS does not even get any steps noted. I have no more to grade, it was just a big " I HOPE" kind of thing. But you are correct, it's not worth what i have in it. Modwriter and bsshog40

Beautiful coin by the way, must be a real looker in hand. Modwriter
