l.cutler
Welcome to the forum. It is just a normal zinc cent that has corroded badly. I don't know if your vinegar had anything to do with it, but it can be very damaging to coins and is not a good idea. Nannerz
Also thank you for the welcome. I just want to make sure I fully understand these things . The other pennies were corroded zinc looking and they came out fine. RWB
Vinegar contains acetic acid. Coins of zinc and copper do not like acetic acid. Next time, use the vinegar for dipping your dinner salad and not your coins. Sharann and l.cutler

I think down the road a bit you will look back and enjoy your time here. If the item pictured is valuable to you why didn't you take advantage of your ehem, 150 bucks and have it evaluated and slabbed by the pros. Second: Why not try another TPG board since you seem not to like this one. C'mon ATS with your picture of your 'treasure'; I'm sure we will be a lot nicer. You make NGC look like a joke yet I know you dont represent them but who wants to be talked down to by a so called "helpful volunteer" Nannerz......if you are new here, you may not know that many individuals here have their own "unique" way of responding. In RWB's case, that often includes jokes, sarcasm, and humour. There is nothing negative, implied or otherwise, in his or others posts. If you're new here, you need to develop a thick skin between the jokes and serious debate that will often ensue. That said, you will not find better professionals than at these Forums. In the case of RWB, you have one of the most knowledgeable numismatic researchers, prolific authors, and scholars at your ready. Aside from some great articles and wonderful books, you'll learn alot from the back-and-forth. The thread on his SAINT-GAUDENS DOUBLE EAGLE book is worth as much information as most books or hundreds of hours of reading will provide. RWB was a most generous and critical contributor to the thread on the best book on Saints ever written -- one written by him.
