info wanted - coin dating 1730

3 posts in this topic

One side has "V III SKILLING" (8 Skilling?) and "DANSKE" on it.

Below that is the date, 1730 (17 and 30 separated by 2 crossed hammers)

Below that are the letters "B" and "F"

Other side has a crown on the top and a lion in the center. There are letters

separated by dots running around the outside of the coin. Some that I can

make out are: G - REX - DAN - NOR - V - G -

Also, the lion is wearing a crown and there is a line running from the lion's

back foot, curving under all his feet and up in front of him where he is holding what looks like some sort of hammer or axe.

Any thoughts on what country this is from or the value of this coin?

It's from Norway. The letters BF should be preceeded by N to indicate the mint master. It's a 8 Skilling.

Depending on condition, it's worth between a couple dollars all the way up to a few hundred.
