Hello anyone and everyone..........

I just got a hold of an 1881CC Trade Dollar in what I novicely grade an EF+

Motto & Liberty is sharp and rims are in good shape

Only problem is that Trade Dollars from what I gather Were minted @ Carson City till only 1878. I have not found any info on this particular date & mintmark.

Any info or advice appreciated.

Chinese fake. Never [ever! ever!] buy a raw trade dollar unless you know exactly what you are doing. While the counterfeiters often mess up in crazy ways [such as putting 1871 dates on a coin that started in 1873, or putting CC mintmarks on wrong dates], they have gotten so much better that it ain' funny. sign-rantpost.gif

The obvious fakes can be screened via photo - feel free to post here and will give opinion. However, there are fakes that are just too good to give a definitive thumbs up by anyone other than a grading service. Save your money - buy certified!

Sorry to inform you that 1881 was a proof only issue from Philadelphia and any CC coins for the year are counterfeit.

If you don't know what you are doing don't buy any expensive coin unless it is in a NGC, ANACS, or PCGS holder!!!!!!
