My first Darkside purchase....whaddya think?

[This was also posted "across the street". Please pardon me if you see that this is a repeat.]

I know it's only Canadian (that's almost like U.S.....sorry Canadian's, I'm just kidding). Okay, technically it's not my first bit of darkside material; I purchased a "complete" set (96 coin - 12 country) of Euros and I owned a Pillar dollar at one time. But, I have a "junky" little darkside collection sitting in 2X2's in plastic album pages. I vowed never to buy any of the coins but just get them from the pocket change left over from friends' and family's trips. When I saw this coin within a gentleman's collection at our coin club that he was trying to sell, I couldn't pass it up. It was the only coin that had a 100% natural look to it, no visible problems, and it seemed like an overall great value.

I think the coin was originally undergraded at VG. I think it's a F12. What do you guys think about my newest addition to my darkside family?

I just got a response from Don Hartlaub of Falcon Coins. He was selling several Canadian Halves at the coin show last weekend and I asked him his opinion (of the scans, because I forgot to bring the coin to the show):

<< On first glance, it looks like the coin would grade F15. It has four strong beads in the crown and portions of two others based on what I can discern from the pics. It looks pretty problem-free from what I can tell! >>

I can see why it appears VG by looking at the inside of the leaves (towards the center) and the center of the crown, but the rest of the coin doesn't show VG type wear. In the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter but it's fun to analyze just the same.

Nice coin - I can imagine this series could be great fun and challenging to collect. How many pieces make a set and are there some nice albums for them?

I agree. Either way, it's a great coin. thumbsup2.gif

It looks fine to me. And FINE!! I believe the early Canadian halves are quite scarce in general. Congrats on the find, and have fun with the Darkside!
